Buenos Aries Vertical Zoo

2009 Competition Entry
Interior detail

“In nature’s plan, there is no such thing as a good or bad animal. There are only those that kill to eat (predator) and those that are killed and eaten (prey).”

An assertive tower is seen commanding the center of the nature preserve Costanera Sur. The 100-meter tall tower is lean, muscular, and poised: it is the Predator. Much smaller – yet still visible from afar – is the Prey, a diminutive structure housing an outdoor café. Predator and Prey are intrinsically linked via natural selection, physical awareness, and stainless steel cables on motorized pulleys. When the café opens, the Prey also opens its figurative wings (roof structure) in fight or flight.
