Railroad House
Chelsea, Michigan
This Greek Revival was functionally rebuilt - all interior walls were stripped down to studs and all additions removed down existing foundations, which were reinforced and reused. The remaining framing was lifted back into place with new LVLs spanning the basement.
In its new form, tall additions bookend the old core and flood the second floor with light. An expanded kitchen and dining room occupy the heart of the old house, while service spaces and a dramatic stairwell dormer were rebuilt along the side. Colors were chosen to play off of the specific character and surroundings of each room. The exterior of the house is completely clad in metal.
